diagram research project

diagrams are very much intertwined with all other kinds of images, to what extent is an drawing a diagram in that all images, notable examples in the artistic tradition are lafolley and denes, but pursing diagrams in an artistic sense has always been an outsider categorisation. A type of image that is inbetween, a blurring between architecture, art, narrative, report. An inherently complex kind of image that cuts diagonally across many slices of stacked culture (diagram here, types of diagrams article). In a world that a kind of realignment of the current mapping of knowledge, the diagram is one possible incision across all culture/knowledge that has a potentiality to stick.

identification with diagrams (biz sherbery article) general re-discovery of "cybernetics" in some parts of society revisiting american modernism (utopian projects, land art, abex, psychedelics) and russian thinking and their synthesis Apollo Era, the space race. diagrammatics have recently appeared a lot in meme culture, Qanon charts, CCRU/acc hyperstitioned emergence in mainstream culture, twitter aesthetics accounts, renewed interest in esoterica, powerpoint graphic emergence, infographics (this one is kind of an inversion), computing diagrams

the hopeful part of this all (hope is important) (pandoras box has been opened?) is that like (dada diagrams, conceptual art, etc etc many pivotal exceptional and privileged moments in history) diagrams are indicative of something new, something, unknown, a hidden potential energy out there that can be captured, drawn out and used to nudge and shove out of the "end of history" , "entropy" and find the new?

^ final outcomes for this project, a series of 3 posters (2 featured) printed and exhibited on the 10th Dec 2021 in a garage show. Exhibited alongside concurrent work by fellow sydney artists.
